Again tried and true impressionsist technique, but this time with a chapter on what each of the various clusters of colors in this painting-water like paint gray, reds, yellows, blues- do in the image. The red in this painting makes the hair stand up just by itself- but notice that the red is super cool and thus the hair and face are also super cool. I would swap out the yellow for a cadmium yellow, but there are so many factors in this image that I don't think this would be the best way to make changes. Turns out, Gurney prefers yellow for most images even if it's just being used for sunsets, and I tend to agree.
The blocky shapes are clear enough there that non 3d people can make a basic assumption that the people in it are standing on a pointy picket fence- the bold white picket can be seen to the left, and the thin black picket can be seen to the right. Although the faces of the girls are lost with the smog of the city and the far distance of the trees in the background, the huge gradation of the paint color lifting the blue tones of the sky like clouds, form the look of the sky in the image. 7211a4ac4a
